Loved the red sea

(This is purely fiction and please don't report this to my parents ;p) .. My fantasies were coated by perfect men from books who spoke perfect words to flow the hem of my skirt and the strings of my heart. These men knew every poem ever written and every fairytale ever told. These men loved children and respected women. These men were crafted from a woman's pencil. I longed for these men. Painful to realize a real man is made of dirt and dust. They are made up of rhythmless tunes and mismatched words. They are clever yet need help to understand their feelings. They make me grip my hair and groan in distress. I could never find a prince of books. Then I got a man. Perfect at see but flawed at saw. These hip of imperfections could not match my dreams. Mismatch at its finest. 1 don't want to see but I observe and am curious. Who is this? Who is he who dreams of me? One of his kind, I dare say. The open arms invite me and hug me so tight, it's difficult to breathe. Actions...

Nancy Drew: My hunger for mysteries

I picked my first Nancy Drew novel in Grade 5 and instantly was obsessed with this little girl going around finding clues and unfolding secrets I could only dream of. I tried to do the same, however, staying in a hostel I could barely afford a lawyer father who would give me cases. Regardless, our assumptions were limited to Jujuman, the hostel ghost, and we used to snoop around in his abandoned car in front of the music room. We would sit there after dance and music classes and look at the old car. Although no one had the courage to go inside, we were very curious and so started investigating the mud around the area. This novel made me realize my hunger for mysteries and quests. It also help form a deep connection with my best friends where we would establish an informal book club. It also developed my habit of reading where gradually I shifted from Nancy to Nora Roberts to Dan Brown to Sidney Sheldon and Jeffery Archer books. One major thing I learned is: She starts from a clue and s...

REBEL

I was the secretariat for EIMUN 2022 where we witnessed delegates from 11 different countries. I actively went around meeting people when I met Tuba Farewar, a 19-year-old from Afghanistan. She talked about her home country and how it has been taken over by the Taliban. It was heartbreaking to see her talk about how she was studying in a foreign country when she heard the news. She told me that if he ever goes back, the Taliban will take her to camps and likely kill her and her family as she is studying in the US Education system and has been actively associating herself with US Embassy by participating in their programs. I have delegated as Afghanistan in some MUNs and have represented both: the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, for the thrill of seeing things from a different perspective. To witness a real-life human sharing her traumatic experience was a setback for me.  She also mentioned that her parents are in Afghanistan and she couldn’t...

Letting go of someone close to you

I must refrain from over-sharing here yet I do my best to reflect on the entire experience and dump my few insights of it as a barely-teen barely-adult kind of being. Safe to say it is a page from my journal.I have rewatched and taken notes from a lot of Bollywood movies but why did not one prepped me for this. The bump was rapid and immediate. My fellowship was new, exciting, and thrilling and the familiarity amongst us rested like an old photograph discovered of a toddler you. Adhering to my Saggitarus Sun, I am very comfortable with quitting people. But quitting someone you shared so many stories, moments and aspirations feel like making a Horcrux and abandoning it. However, today I still go on with my day: dance to Bollywood songs, obsess over Koffee with Karan and watch South Indian movies. I still procrastinate and struggle to reach places on time. Nothing really changed. I don’t feel like a new person but also a bit wiser and at ease. Should the credit rest on my companion or me...

Consultation

When faced with multiple choices at hand, it might be difficult to obtain a certain particular solution. In the present date, decision making needs to be taken at every stage and with availability of multiple substitutes, it’s often difficult to promptly decide on what institution to join, which job to take etc. This Paradox of Choice occurs because instead of the choices being at two opposite spectrums, they are only differentiated to a slight extent and as one wants to make the absolute best choice for themselves, can’t easily decide. A series of consultation activities is taken then. A basis of decision making made easier based on suggestions and tips from expertise from an external party when there are selections to be taken. One approaches a certified organization like manpower, agencies or informal groups like chitchats and individual opinions while seeking consultations. Humorously, some individuals are hired to think and ask questions about what could go wrong and what would be...

Deteriorating state of Model UNs in Nepal

‘I’m gonna look the prettiest.’ I thought to myself as I joined my first Model UN which was happening in my school and was hosting a lot of other school students as well. I pulled off a red saree with a golden shimmer border and an ounce of foundation on my face. With coal-like kohl smeared on my eyelids, I went to my first MUN dressed up to kill anyone who’d endanger themselves by glancing my way.   The results of my laborious effort to put collateral damage to the MUNers were void. Nothing happened. Other than dancing at the Motion of Entertainment, I received rarely any second glances. It hurt to realize that I was just another pretty face there. At the end of the three days, I realized the privilege the out-spoken people received; the spotlight which shone on them. Not the prettiest one but the boldest one. It was surprisingly settling to think about how I don’t have to worry about cakey concealer again or the hair on my arms. You could still be the center of attention as...

Drama

I rewatched the 10 episodes long drama Kakafukaka and wanted to reflect on it.  Sometimes I watch dramas to fill a void of romance that I don’t seem to have in my life at the present moment. To be swooned over by a fictional character and obsessed over him for the show, only to stalk him and realize these people originate from the womb of a pen. I fully admit it. Sometimes I'm either shouting at the frustrating leads on not picking hints or making happy shrieking noises when the pixels kiss on my tiny laptop screen. Regardless of which, I had stopped watching dramas like Meteor Garden because of a boring lengthy plot. Even though my honour wouldn’t permit me to say anything bad about the Boys Before Flower sequence, I found Meteor Garden disappointedly mediocre. The storyline just kept beating the bush. The female lead accepts him, then pull away, then gets close. It was all repetitive and annoying. Similarly, many other dramas have similar predictable plots. The beautiful enthusia...

Review of Ek Ruka Huwa Faisla

You can watch the full movie on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLrPhR0Gzn4 I recently took to the theatres to watch Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathaiwada. Five minutes after the interval, I kept glancing at the EXIT glowing sign at the bottom left of the movie theatre and wanted to leave as soon as possible. As much as I appreciate Sanja Leele Bhansali’s goosebump arising high-cost shots along with some good melodious screening background music in collaboration with Alia Bhatt’s rich acting skills, the movie fails to achieve a landmark i.e. being realistic. As a biography, it would have enriched the essence of the movie as long as Gangu/ Ganga was portrayed as human-like, instead, her appearance, especially dialogues are just too fancy. I realize some people can speak with such smoothness and can readily sweep you off the ground but the things Gangu speaks comes from a long discussion of neatly written scripts. The movie has a strong base but the stories shown are pretty mediocre and don’t...

Sayal

Having spent 8 years of my life in the hostel, I had almost forgotten that I had a baby brother back home. Now, that I'm home and every time I get to see him he's the most annoying creature in this place. What is with younger siblings being jealous and territorial about parents? I will never understand. But this kid has been one hell of a fun guy too. I can hear moma yelling at him all day long and I wonder how he does handle it all. It's just so comical hearing him get scolded over using the iPad too much but nothing was said when he kicked the TV with his football and we had to replace it or when he joked with his teacher that the teacher’s brain was upside down and he needed to go to the mental hospital. He got away unscratched, moma was worried that he was turning into a psychopath and she read in her Facebook feed that the best way to tackle those of his kind was to shower them with immense love. Yet this learning gets laid aside everytime he is found playing FreeFire ...

Review of movie Thappad (Slap)

The best thing is that the script has some pretty basic conversation you have between your family members. When placed in different limelight, you feel the hypocrisy and the male dominance radiating in it and how you have grown thinking it is normal Thappad Theatrical Poster I was on a Twitter space where we were discussing strong female characters and I caught someone mentioning the movie Thappad. This movie was on my to-do list but because it was not the plain chick flick movie with a predictable plot, I was head-on heals procrastinating it. Regardless I did summon the courage and watched it only to be absolutely in love. If you haven’t watched it already, please stop reading- go and watch it right now. Thappad is a strong feminist movie that addresses a big problem of a typical brown household. I remember asking my mother a question- Where do you see yourself in 5 years. She smiled and said- On my daughter’s graduation. I tried again, ‘What about yourself? What makes you happy? What...

Review of Bad Boy Billionaires

Bad boy billionaires, sound of the name gave me the first impression of flamboyant rich kids who lavishly spend their parents’ wealth, were reckless and had a lot of fun.  I wasn’t entirely wrong; these are some responsible big men of India who were responsible for playing with the country’s wealth, taking an intensive loan to fuel their desires, money laundering, skipping taxes, looting the extremely poor; to name a few. These episodes follow the same pattern of storytelling; the first half shows the company doing extremely well and the rich men enjoying their lives.  As soon as you start wondering, what could go wrong? The bubble burst and the second half shows the tumbling empire and how these people have been gobbling money under the nose of the ablest government of one of the world’s superpower. Along with a summary, I’ll also share what I learned from each of these episodes.  The King of Good Times The first episode happens to be of a very widely known name brand, K...

Online classes

Teaching has been one of the most respected professions taught by teachers that possess a highly progressive and appreciable level of knowledge regarding topics. We are fortunate enough to be guided by these mentors. Teaching has been a god-like profession. However, appreciated and valuable this process happens to be, many modifications and changes over the ages haven’t been conducted. Like, if we compare a primitive type of vehicle to a vehicle of today, so many things have changed. There also have been various modifications in its parts that have been replaced by advanced and so much better technologies. One being from a primitive era would definitely stare at this new car in full flabbergast. However, it might not be for the teaching sector. If we see the teaching of the very primitive era and compare it to the teachings of today, we can find that not many have changed, probably nothing. Previously teaching was held in Ashram with a Guru and some pupils and they used to listen...

Kindness

Drastically and faintly I nod The flowers in my hairs fall to my shoulders I believe in everything you say And anything you don’t I will smile to your exotic tale You say “Say something naa” Croaked and cracked my voice Escapes unwillingly Who am I? A dark endless tunnel of sorrow My pain will burden you You’re cloud eleven mist Shall never be intricated by my sin I see life in you; one I will never have One I will never disturb With eyes of blood, I will only smile for you You are not selfish I am just too kind

Book Review on Animal Farm

‘Animal Farm’ is not only a classic for kids with its simple language. It not only introduced me to the world of speaking animals but of literature, politics and spiritual awareness. Background: It allegories the rise to power of Dictator Joseph Stalin. Orwell heavily criticizes the rulers of Soviet Union; communist party rulers where the words of Karl Marx was wrongly translated and the public was made to suffer making them believe that they are free while the government kept exploiting them. Synopsis: Old Major urges his fellow animals to revolt against Mr Jones, the unjust farmer. They initiate ‘Animal Farm’ where every animal is equal and treated right. Things go off-hill after the fight of power between initial leaders Napolean and Snowball; two pigs. The fact that the pigs ruled the farm is quite humorous. Later what follows is a chaotic situation ended with a final amended commandment ‘All animals are equal but some are equal than others.’ I associated it with my own beli...

Rohinga

Rohinga also know as Arakenese are Muslim minorities that lives in Myanmar. They are also spread against western Asia and USA and Canada. While they claim to be citizens of Myanmar, they are of none because Myanmar refuses them as one and strips them of their basic identity. When British colonized Myanmar, India, Pakistan (Hinduistan) and Bangladesh, the laborers were frequently moved for personal benefits that was how they ended up in Myanmar after liberation. A lot of laws and actions have been passed of this race in Myanmar. Right? Wrong. There has been one law passed Union Citizenship Act that refuses them as a citizen. They don’t get their basic rights nor freedom, they are only protected by the international human rights provided from UNHCR. Crackdowns begun in 1970 when the Myanmar military force started attacking this group, torture, rape and murder were a basic everyday news. Later 168,000 fled Myanmar and the brutality wanting countries to accept then, no one did. Eac...

Valentine’s Day: A resting day for soul ache

Either in Eastern or Western world people mainly youngsters and teenagers engulf themselves on the joy of this day. Many couples seek out their favorite restaurants or hotels that are all filled with hefty discounts and roses and beautiful red decorations. They enjoy day and especially night. Many people finally summon up their courage to go out on the voyage to finally open up their heart’s desire to their loved ones. They receive great romantic poems and all form of literature that they can get their hands on. Right from cards to great romantic sounds the towns and cities burst with lovers who for once again in their life think they have go their hands on the love of their life. However beautifully decorated a mall may be, many people do tend to build up a reason to be gloomy on this good da. Many hearts are opened up to prosper, yet hundreds are broken like a glass, never to be healed bask again. Some wear this scar like a jeweler finding a reason for shaming of the opposite gend...

Climate change hypocrites

Cheerful placards with disappointed slogans hang on the streets of Bhaktapur as I take a walk there one evening. The very voice of Greta Thunberg echoes in these alleys which is heavy with criticisms on the government and world leaders for not taking adequate and efficient actions to combat climate change. As I watch happy faces of youth posing for a photo with their cards, I can’t help but ask myself, Do these people know about Macron? Emmanuel Macron is the current Prime Minister of France. France, where it all started with 127 countries signing an agreement stating actions are to be initiated to save our precious planet from boiling up further. After studying the actions taken by countries, not one stands out as the most efficient one. The agreement of this treaty are criticized as being too ambitious. France, the ideal country was not taking adequate actions and its target of carbon neutrality to be reached by 2050 was no-where to be reached. The conclusion was drawn, either a...
